Commercial company Airport Gdynia - Kosakowo was set up by local governments: Kosakowo and Gdynia in July 2007. This entity began to prepare then military airport to the civilians needs.
History of Polish Air Force in Gdynia dates back to the mid-thirties, when the first plane of LOT Polish Airlines went on a half hour flight to Warsaw. Ten years later the area was taken over by the Navy and served with the 34th Fighter Regiment for nearly six decades.
In 2005 came the idea to use part of the military airport to handle passenger traffic. Spoke in favor of this advantageous location of the airport, good road links with the communication system of Tricity and Pomerania, and the possibility of using existing infrastructure - including airport surface and navigation devices.
Although the civilian aircraft will appear only at our airport, regularly tens of thousands visitors come from dozens of countries. Reason? Heineken Open'er Festival, one of the biggest european music event, which have already appeared among stars like Prince, Faithless, Jay-Z, Bjork, Sex Pistols and The Chemical Brothers.
Work is currently underway related to the investment process of building the terminal, and the first tourists will land on the airport already in autumn 2013.
In the initial phase of activity airport will be dedicated to handling General Aviation traffic.
In this regard, the airport after his run will have a reference code B, which will able landing on it, not only small airplanes, but also large jet planes.
At the next stage of development of the airport is planned to launch its charter flights and cargo traffic growth. In the longer term plans to call launch regular low fares in motion.
